What is the tiny cable-end sticking out of the trunk lid? (near the right side light)

What is the tiny cable-end sticking out of the trunk lid? (near the right side light)

There is a slit in the interior trunk lining with a little cable-end, like a bicycle brake cable, sticking out. What is it?

I asume you refer to the latch release. There is supposed to be a yellow handle onit. It's how you get out after you lock yourself in there looking to see if the light stays on!
