Stu,

I took the liberty of grabbing one of the photos and adding it to your post. Compared to the other cars at the event I think it's pretty sharp, but I can't imagine using it as a street car, and I agree that the hood scoop was a very poor decision!

Cheers,

Don

For some strange reason, this one appeals to the Southern Redneck in me! This would attract a lot of admiration at a college football tailgate party.:icon_beerchug :

Just thinking about the carnage it could cause, or the driver come back to after attempting to park up at a supermarket/mall car park.
This is exactly the type of miscreant who would park next to me a half-mile away from the store in the middle of parking lot all alone! It always baffles me as to WHY people feel compelled to park next to you in door ding position when there are 40 acres of open parking?

No Worries Don B, but I stand by my opinion; it's a load of bloody rubbish. It's so ridiculous with the Leyland logos and branding. I hate British Leyland and seeing their branding all over a 308 makes me bilious.

This happens to me a lot, I think it's an instinctive thing deep inside the old part of the brain. Safety in numbers or being part of the herd. I've actually been sat in my car a number of times when this has happened and moved as a consequence.

I have to admit I also hate what British Leyland did to the British automotive industry. The epitome of government overreach and incompetence.

Cheers,

Don

I have no issue with the original Racing XJC, my issue is with an X308 being branded with BL logos etc. BL could never in a 1000 years produce a car like the 308, they couldn't even produce a basic car that started in the mornings. BL destroyed the UK car industry and left thousands of workers jobless. Their greed and penny pinching is what brought them down, and it was the same traits that would finally finish off MG Rover 20 years later.

OK, new one, not by far as bad as some others I posted, but still ...
What a waste of money for a wrap (that is at least I think it is).
And that for a Daimler .

Looking at the c pillar, I think that's a paint job where the cream and ugly color meet.

I do have a reputation for being respectably restrained, but once I lose my temper it's gone good.

BL was bad, it doesn't matter if they made some interesting cars or not. It was a company run on the word of accountants. The penny pinching was unreal, at one point in the production of the Hillman IMP they stopped fitting rubber grommets around the wiper spindles on the bulkhead to save 1/2p per car. When they began making the Austin 1800 they discovered that it was too wide to fit through a tunnel that linked the two parts of the factory together over a road. They loaded unpainted bodies onto trucks and drove them in all weathers with salty roads a 1/4 mile down the road to the other side of the production line. When they began making the Triumph TR7, a car that was bad from the beginning, BL wouldn't allow them to fit the engine they wanted to. Then production was troublesome as they'd have to stop production frequently because the wrong parts were sent from the Coventry factory to the Liverpool one, and then they had to be sent out locally to be finished before they could be fitted to cars.

The only ones who wouldn't play their game was Jaguar themselves, who were told that they would have to put the Rover V8 (A Buick V8 from the 1950's) in the XJ40. So instead they designed the engine bay so it wouldn't fit. Good Lads.

The only brands that survived the BL nightmare were Rover, MG, Land Rover and Jaguar. Jaguar was eventually saved by Ford and BMW bought Rover which still included Land Rover. They sold the MG Rover brand keeping the Mini and Land Rover aspects so they could make zillions off the New Mini (designed by Rover just before they were sold) and develop the X5 using Land Rover knowledge. Ford eventually bought Land Rover and that's what led to the creation of JLR.

The end for MG Rover came when the group that bought them from BMW were basically robbed. Despite the fact they were soaking up all the profits for themselves and operating using aged designs and technology they were doing ok. But then a group of investors from China came to discuss a possible deal, and took the directors out for dinner. During this dinner, they got the directors blind drunk and got them to sign over the entire MG Rover company to them. To me it's got to be the biggest unpunished theft in history, no one went to prison and the only ones who suffered were the workers who lost their jobs almost immediately.

Here's a good TV Show Jeremy Clarkson did where he talks about BL and the demise of the UK car industry.

I can so relate to that Stu, I contract for one of United Technologies companies and have for 23 yrs. They are absolutely clueless about what each company does, but yet has managed to put the central warehouse for most they own in Memphis, TN. So they have people who are picking a number out of a bin (if it was put in the correct bin), instead of knowing what they are picking and I'll receive parts (maybe) that have nothing to do with what I'm installing. They have management that has never seen my work or been around it and argue with me about cost charges they say shouldn't be.
I watched that video and just kept laughing that this is exactly what UTC is. They own 4 elevator companies and when I am on site with either, our parts don't interface. I have a solution, but sometimes the elevator guys will get bent and leave. Oh man, so understand that video.

I was shocked when my car dropped an inch ... These guys go wayyy further.
Guess it is kind of ridiculous, still, once you have been in Japan, it kind of fits their life style and car scene there.

I'm kinda surprised that a tapered tire hasn't come out yet for people who want this kind of stance.
