I purchased my 1997 XJR (I know, X300 not X308!) October 1, 2012 with 66K on the clock. I have 112K on it today. Never an issue, never a trip to the dealer. All basic service done myself including: transmission F&F, rear diff switch to synthetic and oil changes. As I put on around 4-5000 miles per month, my boot also contains: spare set of plugs, Tstat, fuel pump, all belts, CPS, fuel filter and code scanner. My only modification has been to relocate the oil filter for better (cleaner) access. Just wanted to share the success story of what most people would assume to be a very unreliable and high-maintenance vehicle! I say it's one of the best value, highest performing, reliable, beautiful and comfortable cars on the road! I would be interested to hear any thoughts on any other car that can match this. The only one I would suggest would be a 2000-2003 A8 which I can also attest to, but command much higher prices and require higher service cost/interval. People react and comment on the XJR nearly every time I drive it.

I've had my 1998 vdp for exactly a year this saturday and I took a picture of the odometer a week ago when it read 155,555. When it hit 155k I bought it a present and straight-piped the exhaust.
Here's what I've done:
-138k: Full tune up, replaced valve cover gaskets, replaced hood struts
-140k: New tires; Kumho exta platinum z-rated
-141k: Replaced serpentine belt/tensioner (pulley failure)
-142k: Replaced left wheel bearing, upper and lower front ball joints, new tie rod ends
-149k: New carbon/ceramic brake pads all 4 corners.

The car still feels brand new. It's been rock-solid reliable and I feel like it can go at least another 100k as long as I keep up with the maintainence.

Oh yeah, cool sidenote. When I took off the rear mufflers it was signed by the person who built it with a number underneath it. Turns out I have the 569th X308 ever made!

Bought a 2001 Vanden Plas with 97k on the Odometer 2 years ago off of Ebay from a woman in CA. Never saw winter or salt, parked it the last to winters here in Illinois.

It now has 104.5k miles and I love it! She really kept care of this baby, all scheduled maintenance has been done, including tran replacement at 70k.
I've had the headliner replaced and windshield replaced, that's been it!

Recent purchase of 2001 VDP w/ 90K. Drove it from Hilton Head to Greensboro (400 Miles) She drove great. Changed the oil/Filter. Felt a little movement up front when applying breaks so replaced the front end bushings. Studying the tensioner issue on the forum and plan to open and inspect and replace if the job has not already been done. The other high mileage posts have been encouraging . . . hope she goes for 200K

Any pics of the car with these installed?

I have a MY2000 XJR with 79k miles. I've had it since last October, and it had done 68k miles then. Gearbox oil change, tensioners and a larger lower pulley done @77k. Pulls like a train.

I bought my 1998 XJ8L from a Jag dealer when it was 10 months old with about 9k miles, she had been a Jaguar company car. Now 15 years old, it has about 108k on the clock, and apart from replacing the O2 sensors and a few other odds and ends - nothing major, she is fine (touch wood). I love her. Comfortable, fast and stylish.

Mine ticked over to 102k on my first ever drive in it. Its in for a service this weekend, after which I will need to try and stop the voices in my head that keep telling me to get an aftermarket exhaust. Watching this video didn't help, granted its the 4.2 conversion and open mufflers but that kind of sound would be the closest I could get to an angry yank muscle car -

Default How Low Can You go?

My 2006 XK8 has 23,800 miles.
Not sure how I got onto an XJ forum, but will promptly leave you four-door-guys alone.

SHHHH. Would you guys please keep it down? Remember, these Jags are unreliable, high maintenance cars. I need to keep prices down while I search for my 2nd one....

Mileage update: 177K

Driver's side leaper badge fell off on the road, installed new one. (50.00!!!)

New Battery after message center showed gearbox fault, engine limp mode, restricted performance, hand brake on and tachometer died while driving, and multiple other codes. Battery solved everything. (130.00)

Vehicle running too cool, replacing thermostat, housing, etc. tomorrow. (120.00)

Finally went to a factory wiper blade after all of the aftermarket ones I had smeared.

Work needed:

Front brakes installed at 155K now shuddering.
Front shock bushings need replacing again.
Part load breather tube cracked causing P1647 code.
Left side stereo speakers sometimes cut-out. Will investigate when I install Motorola T605 bluetooth kit in the next couple of weeks.

Entering the car in the British Auto Union Car Show in Chicago on September 8.

2001 XJ8, 93k miles on it. Bought it with 67k miles. Since that:
-engine replaced (previous owner was low on oil, so it blew a rod)
-transmission rebuild
-new thermostat
-new brake disks
-ABS module re-soldered
-Various air leaks in intake system were fixed
-Suspension rebuild. Rear suspension was rebuilt twice
-front subframe bushings was replaced
-speakers were replaced
-Every little lamp in a dash was changed
-all plastic and rubber hoses were changed
Coming soon:
-headliner repair
-front windshield replacement
-rear diff. started to make a noises, so it will be replaced soon
-exhaust works are coming soon (the stock exhaust is way to silent)
-minor mods and fixes

Still love it

As we come to the end of another August, I am getting ready to drive back to FL where I came from at the beginning of the month. I've already put nearly 3k on my '03 XJ8 this month, and will put another 1,600 or so before the end of the weekend, for a grand total around 96k.
