Where does the fuel filler drain actually drain to?
Hi all. I'm having water collect in my filler drain after it rains. I have run trimmer line and actually something thicker through there without success. I went to the salvage yard yesterday to get a look at how it's set up. I saw a couple of drains on the car there.
The first one I saw was my original target, and that hole drained to the ground, but it was across the car from the filler, so I was as little dubious about it.
The second drain I found was a better candidate location-wise, but I couldn't see what was on the underside of the hole. (To be honest, I was about the leave when I saw the second hole). I poked around there but it didn't drain directly outside. I could feel my tool hitting something when I poked it through the hole. I probably should have investigated further, but it was super hot out there and we had dinner reservations, so I got to moving.
Turns out it WAS that second drain. #3 here:
The question is this: Like I said it doesn't drain directly outside. Where does it drain to? What's on the underside of that hole? If my drain tube is full of water, and the drain itself is unblocked, do I have some chamber full of water down there sloshing around?
EDIT: I think I'll go back to the salvage yard this morning and look again. Wish me luck. I think the car will be gone soon!

SO - Today's investigation showed that it does in fact drain outside. There's another hole in the subframe that isn't directly underneath the drain hole. Wish me luck pulling out my trunk carpet to get at it.
Not sure why, but the outlet end of this drain hose was damaged. No water could get through. I cut off the bottom inch. The hose has a dogleg in it to let it drain outside properly. My plan is to get a length of rubber hose and route it out through the hole near the battery. Right now I've just jammed it in the original hole but since it's not making the dogleg I think water can collect in there somewhere.
May have been damaged when I my fuel pump was replaced in January.

And with that, Project Fuel Filler Water is COMPLETE! New plastic drain line routed outside and ziptied to the Fuel Tank Straps.

For future reference what were the inner/outer dimensions on that clear plastic line you so artfully installed? And I am looking forward to your Project Reverse Camera as it is something I'd like to have.
If I remember correctly the OD was 1/4", but it ended up slightly smaller than the original part. No idea on the ID, but it was LARGER than the original part. My replacement is so flexible it can be coiled up, while the OEM part is stiff.
I replaced the OEM clamp attaching the hose to the filler boot as it was too large, but didn't use any fastener on the outlet end. Plenty of friction holding it in that grommet. It was about 4' of hose.
For the reverse camera, I have a CARPODGO T3 Portable Android Auto/Carplay unit on my dash, so the camera will connect to that. It will be wired to the reverse light wire in the trunk. I ALSO had JagDroid installed in the radio to easily run sound through the car speakers.
