Where is transponder key code stored?
Lost keys to 2001 xj8 vdp had new keys cut but would need programing closes dealer is about 50 miles away and they want a obserd fee with no guarantee. There is a 2001 xjr near me with a blown motor could I swap out the key and key transponder ( lnf2665 aa) or is it stored in the ecm?. The whole car is cheaper and I would get the wheels and trans to boot
thanks in advance

The transponder code is stored in the SCLM. Security Control Locking Module. You cant just start swapping modules they have to be programmed by the dealer or an independent Jag shop that has the necessary equipment.. Is there a local locksmith that can program. Might be worth calling around.
One last thing it would be helpful to know what Jaguar you have. Make model year.

It is a 2001 xj8 vdp. It seems to me you would be able to switch the different modules that read the key and use the key from the doner car. I just don't know which module store the code and need it to start and run the car
the security module is in the trunk fuse box, for plug and play they have to match programming codes, which will be on the VCATS list around the spare wheel well (removal of trunk carpet to eyeball). The donor idea would need model year related parts - key, key barrel lock to column and module. There's no guarantee, but worth the effort if parts are available.
