will idle,but that's all
I need a little help from you guys.Wife had me pick her up after work today, seams that her 1998 XJ8 VDP would start right up but even though she would press on the throttle it would just stall. Has been a great ride and all else works fine. I checked the cable to the throttle body and it is working. Would sure like some ides as were to start looking.
Thanks

Two possibilities are the fuel pump is failing or the fuel filter is plugged.
Find the schrader valve at the right rear of the fuel rail, looks like a tire valve. Put a rag under and around it and with the ignition on depress the valve. You should get a strong spurt of fuel.

I installed a new fuel filter and the car starts right up and idles fine, but when you depress the peddle down it just stalls out. I checked the fuel pressure at the fuel rail and have some pressure but have no gauge to tell how much. I thought when a pump goes out it just stops working and does not pump at all, does the Jag pumps get week and only pump a low pressure. Can a pump still pump but just not enough.
Thanks for the help with this

Yes it can get weak before failing. Some of the US auto parts stores will loan or rent a fuel pressure test kit. I don't know what country you reside in, but if the US, try calling around. It's also possible a forum member lives in your area and can help.
I have replaced the fuel filter and same problem, I will replace the pump and let you guys know how that works out. It will be a couple of days before I can do that job because of the cold here in NC, sure want to say thanks for the info.

just wanted to say thanks for the help, installed the pump and filter and started right up and ran fine again. The pump was a easy change once the cut was made in the rear deck, unlike most that I have changed the pump is in the bottom of the tank and not attached to the cover and the locking ring is a good idea, because the cover does not turn with it making it easy to remove the hoses. Thanks again.
