I am VERY familiar with IEDs (close up familiar), but let's talk about money again (my favorite subject).

IF one wants to buy a luxury automobile, one is looking at about 6-7 hundred a month payment (not taking in the account the down payment). X308 purchased for 6-7K is a STEAL if you use it for over 2 years (after a year it's a FREE car). So what if it goes KABOOM? Either fix (if emotionally attached like me), or get another one, keeping the one that went bye-bye as a "parts car". Fix (check) the obvious (tensioners, etc.), and don't worry about the rest. Drive and enjoy,.....if you get a year out of it, you're ahead of the game (and I think any enthusiast on this forum knows how to buy a car that will last more than that?).

Just my .002

Indeed so. My '00 XJR has 221K on its original engine, and it's a Nikasil block. Uses maybe 1L of oil in 1K miles of mixed highway/city driving, which is acceptable by Jaguar in terms of consumption. I had all chains, tensioners and guide rails done on it this past fall, so it should be good for another 220K

It gets serviced every 5K miles with Castrol Syntec (since new).

If armegedon was coming, and there were only two choices for mobility ... those being a XJR/6 and a XJR/8 ... *my* choice would be the XJR/6.

Then again, if there was a mid '80s Olds Vistacruiser or Saab sitting in the yard ... either one could beat them out for the job.

and how are the trannys in the earlier XJR6's ?

You guys know what i'm looking to learn..thanks Gerry
...

Well, i pulled the trigger...

I have a deal made to pick up my new to me, 1997 XJR6 this
Saturday morning...

Black on Black 144k, slight damage on the hood and LF fender, the rest of the car seems very straight and clean with no rust issues...

Cold AC, and everything works but the clock, the typical broken cup holder door, and the sycronizer adjustment for the roof so it stops in the right places, guess you have to dick with the button to get it just right on opening and closing....

The interior seems real nice, drivers seat in great shape etc..

The owner told me that in the summer or warmer days it takes 8-10 seconds to fire up, and on cold days it fires right away, but always fires..no outright no-starts... and it has NO engine codes or check engine/warning lights on.. that made me happy too...

New rubber bout 1500 miles ago....

Lookin forward to Andy's remapping and the bigger crank shaft S/C pulley, as well as a performance exaust....

Lookin to make it a bad *** 6 banger ...

the present owner took it to the local jag dealer and got a "to do " estimate...needs shocks in the front and sway bar links, all small stuff really...

He put all 6 NEW coil packs on it with new plugs and has been using it as a daily driver since last august...

Oil changes with synthetic since he has had it etc....

Its a little bit of a project but it looks like a real good platform to start with...

I will try to post a few pics in a moment...

I'm pumped to move into the X3 chassis, even though i love my series III's....

and i still think i'm gonna buy an XJR8 sometime later this summer when the right deal comes up...

Congrats man, being an old Jag owner I'm a huge fan of the XJR6. The DOHC inline 6 Jag motor in my eyes is one of the greatest engines ever produced.

I didnt end up with the car i passed after throwing it up on a lift, and driving it...

needed a ton of chassis work, and didnt seem to have a ton of power really, ran fine exhaust leak, at the the flange... leaky rack and or PS lines not sure which cause it was kinda wet under there, and a bit of an oil leak not major, but enough to turn me off with everything else...OH and a non existant tranny mount..

the good, tranny shifted great in both modes, Cold A/C, everything inside worked... slider needed a module but did work if you screwed with it... real nice rubber, brakes were up and smooth, all lighting worked, and not a rusty terd...no check engine lights...good solid exhaust...

but seemed a bit underpowered, and just to much work, i think i woulda been a bit buried in it, even doing all the work myself....

So i found another car and have made a deal on that...

A 2001 XJR blk/blk, with 420 RWHP with the dyno sheet..the car is immaculate with all the the records and reciepts for all of the performance work..

Flying out and driving it home here within days...

Glad i payed up for what i wanted, on a turn key car, that is like new...I am pumped !

I will update as i go .... thanks guys Gerry

Yes, please update us on your progress. Also, give us the specs on that car.
