Default X308 wheel nuts - aftermarket wheels

I'm looking at aftermarket wheels for my XJR. The current OEM Penta wheels use a wheel nut which looks like this:

Unlike most I've encountered, which are conical and locate in cones in the wheel, these appear to be parallel where they pass through the wheel.

I assume therefore that wheel centering is taken care of entirely by the hub in the centrebore?

I guess this means I can swap these out for open nuts of a similar style:

The fitment of which isn't critical in the holes in the wheels themselves?

The wheels I'm looking at are steel, with a thick flat centre web and the cones are just countersunk in, so drilling them parallel and using these nuts would be a nice easy solution if they just centre on the hub.

Thanks

Why not just get a set of cone seat lugnuts? They're cheap.

Because then you need wheels with accurately machined conical seats

Your aftermarket wheels will (should) still be hubcentric, so very slight misalignment in the seats for conical lug nuts should be acceptable. Many members (myself included) have been able to get away with running a 5x120 PCD wheel, where the OEM fitment is 5x120.6PCD.

Just need to make sure your aftermarket wheel's hub bore is same as factory fitment (I want to say 73.9mm IIRC). Either a hub spacer if the difference is large, or I ended up installing some shims for peace of mind (I think .007" adhesive-backed SS shims to get my 74.1 bore wheels to sit snug on OEM hubs).
