Default X308 XJR radiator replacement question

Has anyone replaced their XJR’s radiator with a radiator that didn’t come from the dealer? The Jaguar mechanic says there isn’t a generic one available.

Unfortunately, your mechanic might be right. I still haven't found a new one selling for less than $1100.

Try the Forum sponsors SNG Barratt, Jagbits and Welsh they all have radiators. The prices are more reasonable than the dealer

Also don't be afraid to have one made. I believe it was earlier this year a member had a similar question and I found a couple sites that would make them for around $4-500, but don't hold me to that.
I'd also check with a local, ...well established..., radiator shop regarding a replacement and see what they say. Me, ....I have no issue with a respectable shop rebuilding one (had my Corvette done 20 yrs ago).

Sorry but you are wrong.
Those places are usually more expensive than full retail and way more than the few jaguar dealers that sell at a discount on line
No surprising since all those places, at least the ones not being official Jaguar dealers, HAVE to buy their parts from a Jaguar dealer
case in point:

Jaguar dealer
2003 - Jaguar - Vanden Plas Base - - - V8 - 4.0L - GAS
COOLING SYSTEM / COOLING / RADIATOR & COMPONENTS / Radiator
MNC4190AH - Radiator

MSRP Core Online Price
$840.00 $0.00 $836.64

Jagbits
RADIATOR
RADIATOR$890.00
Part #: MNC4190AH

RADIATOR, FITS 1998-2003 XJ8 XJR AFTER VIN 832728.

Those prices are actually cheaper than any others I've seen in the aftermarket. For some reason, radiators for X308's fetch a premium price.

Also, if yours is too bad to fix, and your willing to go used...check with Coventry West (site sponsor). I get notifications from them all the time of cars they've gotten in they are parting out. Real nice to deal with also btw...givem' a call.

I have a used one from a 1999 XJ8 that looks to be in really good shape. Let me know if you're interested.

buy a used one.. the price for these is absolutely ridiculous and there is no reason for a radiator to be 700-1100$. absolute bullshit. the 2004 rad is 180$ brand new. you can have a custom billet radiator with a thicker core BUILT for much cheaper than jag sells this ****

I was able to retrofit mine to the 2004 XJR radiator when my original radiator tank split. My choices at the time were a $1200 radiator, or an overpriced used one that is probably close to failure too. I opted for the $220 2004 XJR radiator which has the same basic core size but different mounting points.

It required some extensive modifications but is doable and worth the $1000 savings in my opinion. It requires carefully cutting off the tank supports from the new radiator, fabricating new lower supports, modifying the fan shroud (or buying the matching 2004 fan assembly), and replacing one of the radiator hoses.

I am still amazed no one makes replacement plastic side tanks for this range of years.

MODERATOR: Are we allowed to put a company name and telephone number on here? I got mine 2nd hand for £70! Sure those reading most posts I make know where I'm talking about, even with shipping it would be a lot less than some of these quotes?

I'm sure there is a way to delete a post, but I haven't found it, this radiator is for the X350 XJR not the x308

I see NISSENS 66708 being listed as an XJR replacement radiator. Is this an incorrect listing?

Nissens catalog doesn't even list any radiators for the x308

Hi colleagues,
I bring this old discussion up again, as I could not find anything corresponding to my question: does anyone here have experiences with these cheap 3 row aluminium intercooler radiators from various US/UK dealers?

For example:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Upgraded-....c101196.m2219
Edit: just seen, that this dealer is from China, not UK. Upps...
Does this dealer from US also sell the China radiator?
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Upgraded-....c101196.m2219

Thx in advance, stay well!

I don't have experience with the cheap ones ("cheap thing no good"). I bought an uprated SC radiator from Barratt (MNC8200AFU) a couple of years ago, hand made in the UK. However, they don't seem to stock them anymore.

I can see that "Powerhouse-uk" are selling uprated radiators (directly and on Ebay), UK made, which appear to be the same as what I bought:

https://powerhouse.uk/content/jaguar...-and-pumps.php

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jaguar-XJ...-/162663424192

The radiator looks good but it could have had the welds ground/smoothen a bit at the top and bottom to make the installation easier. I ground the welds a bit but the installation was still a very tight fit. Had to lift the bonnet hinge plates up somewhat and do a bit of cutting and bending of the chassis frame at the bottom corners:

As you can also see on the first picture above, the RHS hose connection was, for some reason, positioned lower that the LHS one (should be at the same level) but I could still connect the hose without much issue.

This is what I did at the bottom corners (made short cuts in the chassis frame corners and bent the edges down):

Thank you very much, that helps! Of course I do not intend to buy these China radiators. Powerhouse in UK has the radiator upgrade still in program. Here is another dealer from UK, who has - as far as I know - a very good reputation:
