Default x308 XJR Valve Stem Seals Replacement

Is it possible to remove and replace valve stem seals in a 2000 x308 XJR without removing the heads?

Is there an accepted process/ procedure for doing so?

Thanks. Best, Harold ...

It’s possible but, if you’ve gone that far, you might as well go just a little bit further and pull the heads and have the machine shop go completely through them including valve adjustment. Get the MLS head gaskets and new head bolts especially being an R car. You’ll be glad you did. Mine ran so much better afterwards.

Upon reflection, I think your suggestion is the direction that I will go in: pull and completely rebuild the heads with new valve stem seals, MLS head gaskets, and head bolts. There is no indication of any problem with the cylinders or block, and attempting to replace valve stem seals in situ appears to be a back-breaking slog.

Thanks. Best, Harold...

The problem with doing it in situ is the TINY holes to work through when the lifters and springs are removed. Plus the holes are at an angle!!

If you don't have any problem, why were you thinking of replacing the valve stem seals? Do you get a cloud of blue smoke (which rather quickly disappears) every time you start the engine after it has sat overnight or longer?

If you have no indications of the head gaskets leaking, it is better not to touch them (the usual "If it ain't broke...).
