I'm hunting for one tomorrow for a 2000 XJR, I'll let you know if I find anything. There's a VIN split on the factory speakers which I don't understand yet, so one flavor might not suit both applications. At $215, it's worth a little research for an acceptable alternative. The mounting depth is the big obstacle, I think.

 

So I made a couple of calls to see if I could find anything local, and both guys thought I was from Mars. I have read alot of posts on other forums in the past, and nobody was able to come up with a replacement that I know of.

The correct factory speaker for your car is LNA4144AB, that's the HK speaker for '98-'99 and it has a Jaguar suggested list of $151.50. I'm not saying it's impossible to find something that could be adaptable as a substitute, I'm just saying at that price it really isn't worth fooling with to me. If you go another route, please post your findings.

The 2000 and later speaker I need for a customer car is $206. list, I think they switched to an Alpine system and therein lies the difference: so according to Jaguar, even their's are not interchangeable.

 

I too am looking for a subwoofer (1996 VDP). Talked to the Little Rock Jag dealer and was told that they were no longer available.

I was also told that the LNA4144AA and the LNA4144AB speakers are interchangeable.

go on ebay and search for dual voice coil 6x9. Your 98 and 99 xj8 uses a 6x9. I'm sure the 2000 to 2003 use 6x9 as well even though its alpine. Mine was a Harmon Kardon and I changed it and it works...my issue is that my head unit isn't recognizing the subwoofer and won't let me adjust the bass. I purchased another amp and still same issue.

 

Coastal, The head unit has a configuration that must be set, if I recall... however, I don't know how - hopefully someone who does will chime in.

Passport - I used the speaker surround repair kit as shown in the link- it was pretty easy and worked perfectly.

It is a 6x9 dual voicecoil subwoofer and there is no direct replacement for it except those made for the Jag. The dual VC 6x9's available on eBay are not subs, they are full range speakers designed to go in the center dashboard or package shelf position of a classic car, say a 65 Mustang, yet play both channels of a newer stereo head unit. It will not give you the bass you want in the sub position in the Jag.

 

Yes I know about the classic car but I didn't want to pay 200 for a used sub. My old one was blown and while it still plate all of the sudden the head unit stopped showing the control for it. Now it plays but I can't adjust bass. The only way to configure tst I have found is pull head unit and make sure it's set I premium sound on the back. I see no reason for that as mine should already be there since I have premium. Is there a way to select a menu?

 

Unless someone else chimes in with a config menu I'd suggest you exercise the premium switch on the back - corrosion can make the switch contacts a high resistance, fooling the head unit into mis-reading the switch position... exercise will strip the corrosion, returning them to low resistance and proper operation.

 

Again,....I will suggest the junkyard. Low mileage Jags are available at "Elite Auto" in CA, with all parts you can imagine. I paid $500 for a complete interior from a 25K mile unit. How much they would want for one speaker? Give them a call, and ask for the owner (Rick). My PRISTINE interior included all the door panels, with all the switches, handles, speakers, and such (that included ALL seats, complete center console, climate control unit, and a TON of small parts!). I did not buy the back shelf with the sub, but I can't imagine the sub to be pricey.

I have ALL door speakers (Alpine) in reserve, just in case. My H&Ks are still good, so I transfered them to the "new" door panels.
