xj8 airbag light

xj8 airbag light

my friend has come to me to see if i can find out on the net about a problem hes having on his xj8.

1997 xj8 3.2 v8 short wheelbase

it only has one airbag he told me.

the problem is whe he starts the car the airbag light comes on and goes off as normal. then he can drive the car in a straight line for as long as he likes but as soon as he turns a cornerleft or right, the airbag light will come on. the light will then stay on untill he turns the car off and starts it again. hed like to know how to take the steering wheel off to have a look at it as it seems that there is a electrical problem only occuring when he turns the wheel.
can anyone shed any light on this strange problem?

sounds like a cassette reel behind your steering wheel...

hi thanks for the reply. please excuse my ignorance but could you tell me what a cassette reel is and what it does please. is it a servicable part or ca it be replaced? ay ifo o this is greatly appreciated.

It acts like a canceling cam for the turn signals but also funtions with the airbags and cruise control units. I believe it also feeds info for the electronically controled suspensions.
