Xj8 charging problem
Hello all. I am posting for my friend who is not very computer literate so please make allowances for technical description errors.
He has had his 1999 xj8 for a couple of years and loves it to bits. Recently he had a lot of things stopped working, got stuck in gear, ac stopped working. Finally would not start. Charging light came on. Identified battery dead . Bought a New battery then realised not charging. Replaced alternator still not charging. What should he try next. Any suggestions gratefully received

Welcome 50sfins...first off you'll want to bookmark this site... JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource ...its operated by a respectable site member.
You will find helpful subject matter and pdf's like this... http://www.jagrepair.com/images/Auto.../jagxj1999.pdf
Your friends long list of issues can be a combination or a somewhat singular area. First thing I would do, is check and/or replace the battery cables, check the grounds. If there is any sign of corrosion on the cables, replace them, you won't win that game. Check all your fuses also, be sure to check the alternator wiring for cracking, breakage, scarring or corrosion, ....check the pinning for corrosion and none have pushed out or broke. You can use either link I provided to find your grounding points.
You will want to check the CPS (crank positioning sensor) also. It may have gone south or simply may be dirty, the links I provided shows it.
You can also prompt the links in my signature to determine any TSB's and/or How To's for review.
