Default Xj8 electrical fault and suspension fault after it was welded for mot

Hi all, please help if you can. I took my perfectly running 1998 XJ8 3.2 for it's MOT. It failed on a ball joint and track rod end, both which I replaced myself with no problems. It also failed on rear seat belt mounts, which required welding. The garage said they would do the welding. The car was driven onto the ramps and welded, and since has not been able to be started. Display shows electrical fault and suspension fault, neither of which had ever come up previous to the welding been done. I am sure it has been welded without the battery being disconnected, and consequently these faults have arisen as a direct result of that. Neither myself or the garage can fix it. All fuses and relays have been checked. Has anyone come across this problem before, or any ideas on how to get my beloved jag back on the road.

Yours hopefully, Pete.

Welcome to the forum Peter.

The fuses and relays may well be ok. Have you checked the power supply to the 2 heel-board fuse boxes?

Just a shot in the dark as you mentioned the rear seatbelt mountings.

Hope this helps,

I haven't checked that no, but I will check it tomorrow and see if it has power to it.

Thanks

Default Problem solved

Big thank you Jim, your idea to check the power to the heel boards was spot on. Tested and found no power. Did a little investigating under the carpet where the garage had done the welding and found a relay hiding under there. Once that was fitted in the heel fuse board she fired up no problems. Can't believe the garage couldn't fix it however, to say I'm disappointed in their service is an understatement.

Big thanks again Jim for pointing me in the right direction.

Kind Regards, Pete.
