Default xj8 seat problem

hi everyone,
i am a new jag owner, my wife has always loved them and she just turned 40.. she loves the xj8 body style....so she got one for her birthday.

I am having a different seat/steering wheel issue. I have done a search but cannot find anything that is specific to my issue.

using the memory buttons, the drivers seat and steering wheel work fine, and both move to their preset positions, but the steering wheel and seat do not move manually when the manual switches are used....
I tried switching the module from the pass side, but nothing?
where to next?

As for the seat I would suggest cleaning the switch unit on the seat that is malfunctioning see the attached http://www.gusglikas.com/AutoRepairS...trolSwitch.htm The steering wheel controls I am not familiar and unable to help at this time. You might look to see if a relay is part of the equation.

I am thinking it must be something in the module, my reasoning for this is that both the seat and wheel respond to the memory settings. they move through the full range as one setting is all the way back, and one is all the way forward..

None of the switches work, steering nor any positioning switch.. so i am thinking that the problem must be in the "manual" part of the module...

Do your map lights or outside mirror adjusters work? If not, you might have a short in one of the circuits serviced by the body control module.

It is always good to get additional information on the situation. With both seats acting up along with the steering adjustment I think you might be right. First look to see if a fuse or a relay might be in the mix then look at the connections for proper connections.

If it is one seat you may have 2 problems. Look at the manual seat switch and see if that can be made to work the seat.

I would swap left and right seat modules and see if the problem follows the module. I believe you will find the two problems are not related.

already swapped modules... same situation, but did not try steering wheel..

is there a different circut through the module for the memory ?
also i would assume that the modules would be different due to the memory of the drivers module..

does the steering column manual adjustment run through the module?

does anyone have a wiring diagram of these circuts?

thanks for all the info guys... great resources...

seems like most of the information is geared towards the memory not working....

the memory works fine, it the manual switches that don't work.

do the manual switches run through a different fuse or circuit than the manual...
also he manual steering wheel adjuster does not work..

does the manual steering column adjuster run through the seat adjuster module?

anybody know if the manual switched on the seat and steering wheel have a common relay, fuse, etc that could be causing this?

Look at page 35 of the oneline I provided you, you will see that under the seat you have two relays for that seat. Also Figure 12.1 has the full Driver Seat Memory, Fig 12.2 5-Way Powered and 12.3 Rise/Lower electrical oneline. On Fig 12.3 you will see the relay I am speaking of it also shows the switch pack. I would swap the relays and also clean the switch. You will also see that the feed is from both the left and right heal board fuse box Fig 01.2 (Fuse 1 & 3 LH & Fuse 1 RH) check them. This should get you started.

I may be over simplifying but....I think the BCM is confused.

Have you tried a "Hard Boot" reset?

When the electrical gremlins invaded my system and goofy stuff like this was happening the Hard Boot cured all that ailed my car.

Smile XJ8 seat problem (try this)

Hi all,
Welcome to the forum, Yardpro. If I understand it correctly, the seat and steering column do seem to function properly as far as moving to the correct position. But this behavior won't work with the manual controls.
It seems that the various modules, motors, relays, and etc. are working as designed. Using the oneline from Gus, it seems that the MANUAL switches for both the seat and the steering wheel are supplied with power from the lefthand heelboard fusebox fuse #8 (5 Amp). I've attached a snipet from the oneline.
And happy birthday to the wife!
