Default XJR - how much toe-in?

Since I changed the front balljoints on the XJR, the steering has been a little "darty". So I checked today, and I had 1/16" total toe out at the front, and changed it to 3/16" toe in, which is right at the upper limit, I think (max is 0.42 degrees).

So I was wondering, has anyone experimented much with the toe-in, and how much is preferred? Most of my driving is highway so I like it to be directionally stable without steering input.

I just had mine aligned and had the spec sheet and can't find it now...arrrgh. Anyway, what width and type wheel/tire combo are you running? The wider the combo, the more nuts on you need to be. A narrower combo has more forgiveness. Caster is important, but Camber is very important also, you can ruin a any setup with camber out, especially if the rear needs shimming.

There has been a discussion some years ago, on using a spreader bar on the front wheels during the toe-in setting, taking out any play, and be sure the toe-in setting is correct under real-life conditions.

This was all advocated by a member called "Brutal", a very knowledgeable guy.

I followed his instructions when I installed new tires, and it seems to prevent the extreme wear on the inside of the fronts which some of us experienced.

To each its own on following this, but it did good to me.

Thank you for the specs. They have quite a broad range for toe-in, from pretty much straight ahead, to about 3/16" toe-in, so I am interested in understanding what the best setting is within the allowable range.

Right now I am at the upper limit of 0.42 degrees.
