Default XJR tyres

Hi I'm currently running pirelli p zero assimetricos the size is 255 45 18's I'm happy with the tyre and the size however I'm not sure I want to fork out £1200 again for a new set is there any other brand that is as good or better but cheaper what are avons like? They are used on Astons and Bentleys as standard and seem reasonably priced what other brands? thanks for reading and hope to get as many views as possible

Aston actually use Pirelli, and Bentley use Bridgestone on the GT. I had success with Michelin and Bridgestone, but heard good news with Khumo for a budget tyre. If you shop around you can get high quality for under 800 quid. The important thing is to get an asymmetric tread pattern as these cars tramline badly on sym patterns.

Er, I'm lead to believe that the load is a number i.e. 96 = 710kg and the letter Y = 300kph, the highest.
I run Bridgestone Potenza RE50 255/35/19, they are "Y96 extra load". Meaning, they can run 710kg at each corner, at over 187.5mph. Good enough for me. When you're into these kinds of performance tyre, there isn't much to choose between them, maybe down to cost if covering serious miles?

Well, Goodyear isn't generally known for producing junk...although I'm sure they've had their moments over the years :-)

It really depends on what you want out of a tire. Different brands and different offerings within the same brand can have very different attributes. For me wet traction and long life are important considerations. For others, dry traction or quietness may top the list.

So, rather than just shopping by brand name prioritize your requirements and shop accordingly.

Just my 2-cents :-)

Cheers

Just to add my two cents worth... I am now running Michelin Pilot Sport AS +. My past experience has been that Michelin have been the longest running tires I have ever owned. Past experience with Goodyear and Pirelli was they had very short life spans and were very noisy when worn. Time will tell on the Michelins for longevity, but they are one of only a few that actually have a warranty on the Z series performance tire. The other tires I had were Toyo Proxes T1-R and they were great when new but the noisiest tire I had ever owned when worn. I did enjoy the summer only tire vs. the all season, but my overall use in Seattle made an all season a better choice.

Michelins in general do have a reputation for long tread life. Harder rubber, I reckon.

Most low profile, performance tires have a notoriously low tread life. That disadvantage is offset by notoriously high prices :-).

On my XJR I finally downsized to 16" wheels just to get a tire that would offer a decent life span. When you drive 20k miles/year it's no fun having tires that wear out every 15k miles :-).

Cheers

If youre looking for a bargain... Falken FK452 is cheap, Z-rated, aggressive looking, and quiet. Treadwear is pretty good, I'm sure 25k per tyre. Plus, they don't have to warm up so they don't 'lump' along for the first 15 miles.

I have a picture on my profile page somewhere.
