Default XJR won't start, 1998 european model.

I stopped at a shop and coming out it won't start. There is no sign of life in the instrument panel nor anything else in the run position except the stereo comes on. Lights work. When I turn the key to the actual start position one relay in the trunk fuse box clicks, the little mileage display wakes up and says "SYSTEM CHECK" and that is all. Nothing else happens. The battery shows 12.3V, and the car just came from a 260km trip yesterday.

Well, the problem came back. And on the way home it stopped twice, once engine swithed on again while coasting toward an exit from the road. This time hard reset dpes nothing so at least the gault is permanent. Any ideas?

Check to make sure the battery cable is tight.

Check the bulkhead connector on both sides by the passenger side front upper shock mount. Also check the ground wire underneath the engine. Maybe check the starter relay for burnt contacts. If still no go, check the 2 power wires on the starter itself.

Here is the cause. One lead broken at the ignition switch. Too tight when wheel was fully extended and up. Soldered back and rerouted slightly.
