$45k is serious top of the mark money for any x308...but that car is just drop dead gorgeous. Shame it never got to be enjoyed.
Is it weird that it has a space saver spare? Running change in 2002 or just on the XJR100 maybe to save on the cost of a 5th wheel? Or is it more weird that my 2001 XJR has a full size spare Asteroid?
I believe a full size spare was an option you could delete if you wanted. Either way, surprised a 100 owner would not have ordered it. My 98 has a full size chrome Penta spare as do most I've seen.
It really is a lot of money for that car. I love x308s and the XJR 100 as much as anyone but there are a lot of really nice cars you could get for $50k. Personally I'd go with a C6 Z06 and have some change
A 2001 XJR with 4400 miles sold last month on BAT for $47.5k. That's just nuts. Bad investment for the original owner...why not drive the thing?
Hey Vince, you are not going to try and compare an FJ Cruiser to a Jaguar, are you?
Or maybe, you are just comparing the high prices for the two.
I meant to make the point even a 2014 FJ cruiser is asking 40 plus grands. so people should not say...about low mileage XJR100 will go as far as over 45k
Well yeah, the market is crazy and continues to be...heck, I saw a dealer in Texas that had a pair of off lease Honday Odyssee minivans for sale, asking over 100k. Probably the craziest one I've seen yet.
But the X308 kind of seems to be an exception, at least in my area. Gorgeous XJRs with 80k are aksing 10 and judging by the fact that they're stillfor sale, aren't getting it.
I bought mine because a decent XJR can be had for old Corolla money, so at least to me, mileage notwithstanding, any X308 going up in the 40's is a huge price for the market. Just my own 2 cents.
The thing about x308 XJRs is that condition is everything. There are quite a few cars for sale semi-locally that have been up for sale for quite some time. There's a good reason for it - they were not properly taken care of. Nobody wants an x308 with bad paint or rust, that makes them virtually worthless to most people. A proper paint job on an x308 would cost at least $8k if not more to properly. Cars that are in pristine cosmetic condition with lower mileage are going for a lot more than they were 1-2 years ago, but cars with flaws can still be bought for cheap. Very weird market with a huge spread between nice and throw-away examples.
I'm currently on the hunt for an x350 XJ8 (or R) ro replace my totaled daily driver, but if one of the cheaper x308 XJRs with some issues would pop up for sale locally I'd probably jump on it. I originally bought my 98 R to drive and I have been driving it pretty often nights & weekends, but its way too nice to commute 100 miles a day on the PA Turnpike with, it would take quite a beating.
Wow, very impressive. Can only mean good things for clean non-100 XJRs I guess. There is another 100 coming up shortly with 25k on it, wonder if that will go over $50k as well.
