Hi.Im still trying to get to know the sight.I believe this is the right section for tech advice.I am getting gas smell in the car and in the trunk.Three hours of checking for fuel leaks came up negative. No leaks no breaks just the smell. The gas filler looks pretty new as well?I hear this is a common issue w/this year and model?Any advise will be greatly app.Regards,Piero
Hi Blueslover,
I have an '88 XJ40 which had a similar problem. I found that there was a vapor line or some such similar line that ran from the tank to the front of the car. This line had what looked like a plastic cylindrical diaphram switch like thing, sorry about the description but hard to explain what it looks like. This had a line to and a line exiting. I found that the line exiting this switch like looking thing had come off. I put a new piece of line on and this seems to have fixed the problem. Not sure if your car is the same as mine but at least its worth having a look for.
Cheers

And if it's not coming from the fuel/vapor lines then it is worth checking the top of the tank for any rust....not an easy job as the tank needs to come out to inspect but it has commonly been reported as a source of fuel smells in the cabin.
