Battery not holding charge

Battery not holding charge
I was given an 85 xj6 series III. It wasn't running. Upon looking it has a New starter, New battery, New fuel pump...I have checked and cleaned most wires, spark, and I believe I've made it to the point of replacing the ECU (it's on its way in mail) There is no fuel to injectors. I put in some gas as well. I am curious why the battery would keep draining and not hold a charge at all? ...here is to hoping the ECU gets it started too.

Hi Charlene n John,
Welcome to the forum.
Check that a previous owner didn't have something electrical like a car alarm fitted.
I bought my Series 3 back in March and had a similar problem of the battery not holding charge overnight.
I bought a new battery and all.
Turns out that although I wasn't using it and it was 'off', the after market alarm system was draining the battery as it was still wired in.
It didn't help that I had an intermittent fault in the alternator so that it wouldn't properly charge whilst running.
It's usually the small things that make you scratch your head with these cars
Cheers and happy motoring,
Nigel

Welcome Charlene n John!
Another male and female Jaguar team????
1. Charge the battery. Ask a local parts house to load test it. Most will for free, obviously hoping for a sale!!!
2. Turn off all lights, radio, heater, ignition and anything else that you think of.
Disconnect the _ battery cable. Connect your VOM meter in series. Read the amp scale. .045 miliamps or so normal. Rough test. if no VOM use a test light. Very dim light probably OK. Bright, nope.
If it flunks those tests, find the closed circuit that should be closed. R&R fuse by fuse while checking amps or light;
As stated. after market alarms and boot lights are known villians.
If the boot light, check back. I have a safe way to check that...
However, a fully charged battery should crank the engine vigorously. Resolve the first and then check back for tour on no crank. I was just there, over and over....
