1992 Sovereign XJ6 Fuel Pump not coming on
Hello. This is my first post. I have been the proud, but frequently irritated owner of a 1992 Jag for about 3 or 4 years. Started out with no apparent problems and problems have seemed to constantly develop since then.
My main concern right now is that the fuel pump randomly does not come on. We replaced the fuel pump a few years back when this happened, but I sometimes still get the same problems. For months it will run fine, but upon trying to start the car (after just having driven it) the car will not start. It tries to, but we cannot hear the fuel pump coming on (when I'm turning the key and someone listens in the trunk). We believe the relay to be fine.
After a day or two after having to be "jumped off" the car will usually start and run fine again for months. What do you think?

Pump relay for a '92 is on a bracket adjacent to the brake master cylinder, if memory serves. There is also a two wire harness connector for the pump at the base of the fuel tank, left side (look for blue wire). The terminal connections at the evaporative loss flange and the fuel pump link lead, both inside the tank, are notorius for burning up and causing intermittant pump feed...until the connection fails completely.

Thanks for the responses
Thanks for all the quick responses. Unfortunately, it did it to me again this morning and I was late for work. I have shown your responses to my fiance and he said that he cleaned those leads inside the tank before and that's when it behaved for a long time. I believe we will try cleaning them again and possibly I can get him to replace them. Once we get this cleared up I have a few more questions I might bother you with.

Yepper. Lately I have resorted to doing the same thing for the connector to the link lead at the evaporative loss flange: the link lead replacement requires buying a complete new fuel pump mudule assembly, and the terminal connector block requires the purchase of a new evap. loss flange. That's freaking hundreds of dollars worth of factory-only parts, fed to a $2,000 car. Not gonna happen.
