1993 xj6 starting issue -FIXED
Hello all. My 93 xj6 is not starting, I feel the best way to go about this is just give a list in chronological order off what happened and how I attempted to troubleshoot. First off I put 20$ of fuel in and it took a while to register and then the gauge fluctuated while driving, which is strange and never happened before. The next morning it cranks with full power and doesn't start.
I checked all related fuses to the fuel pump, all we're fine.
Heard no hissing from the pump
Jumped the relay and still no hissing
Checked the power lead to the pump. NO POWER
Applied direct power from battery to pump, still no hiss.
VCM isn't saying anything.
With this being said, I know my fuel pump is bad since there's no sound from it with direct power. However I still can't figure out why there is no power going to the pump. I just replaced the cap rotor and coil so I know it's not a spark issue. Could there be an unforeseen variable that is stopping power from going to the pump. This isn't the first fuel pump issue I've had to troubleshoot but I'm kinda at a loss here. If any of you seasoned jag veterans could provide some input I would really appreciate it. Thanks for reading. Bert

The pump is most likely toast, Have you checked the relay it might also be bad. It directs power to the pump. If youre doing the work yourself get an airtex pump(its a walbro the same as that is inside the canister).I was short of time when i did mine so i removed the back seay ,cut a hole in the shelf above the tank and took every thing out without removing the tank (took about two hours). When putting back together reseal the hole piece with a couple of tabs screwed into the shelf then seal it up with rtv.

the relay is in the trunk RIGHT side blue hella relay pull one from the engine and try replacing it. there is a shutoff switch in case you're hit hard in the front end. It's located in the far left corner drivers side where your left foot would be it can be flipped if you hit it just right with your toes or cleaning with a vacuum hose

This has turned into a bit of a nightmare for me. I brought it to the shop, had no time to continue myself since I work five days a week. They replaced the fuse in the right side panel, number three, I believe and it started, ran and drove for about an hour. Went to start it again a while later and it wouldn't kick over. They thought the pump wasn't sending the correct pressure. Got the correct pump, replaced, then come to find out the injectors aren't spitting fuel into the cylinders. They had a specialty electrical guy come investigate and he said it was the CPS. crank position sensor, and that was the root of the problem. It wasn't. It's still at the shop and the can of worms has been opened. It's been in the shop for over a week and I'm at a loss.

I finally pulled the trigger and pulled my fuel pump. Totally rusted and pump is shot. Replaced and put everything back. Got the engine to finally start to sputter. Some signs of life. Still wont start. Plugs sook like they are fouling. Too much gas. Trying to find a repair shop to clean the injectors.
Let us know what happens next as I may have to change the CPS on mine.

It was a fuel line blockage the whole time. Car is running great. I think the mechanics at my shop were reading into the problem a little too much. But all is said and done, I got anew CPS, fuel pump, pressure regulator, and battery for 590$. I believe the price for the pump and labor to install was 220. I work for the company that owns the shop so that's my employee price. Anywhere else, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a 2000 dollar job. I'm just glad to have my baby back!!! Thank you for all your input. I appreciate it!
