'88 XJ6 3.6 - Tons of smoke/fuel out of exhaust
Good morning,
This is a repost since I accidentally posted it in the XJ6 forum. New member and new Jag own here. I am having an issue with my recently acquired XJ6, and I'm hoping the collective mind here can help me troubleshoot. Bought the car as a 'starts and dies' car with undiagnosed problems. Bought a new battery for it and was able to get it to start and mostly function, with the exception of the smoke when driving. When sitting in park, there's a small amount of smoke and fuel that come from the exhaust; but under load there's huge clouds that are left behind without much power. Only thing I've done so far is swap out the coolant temperature sensor, and cleaned of the distributor cap as best as possible and checked all of the injector and misc. other plugs to make sure there is no excessive corrosion. Can anyone offer any advice as to what I should troubleshoot next?

Are you saying that unburned fuel is coming out your exhaust? If so thats very dangerous and I suggest your injectors are somehow stuck open. Depending on if the car sat for very long your fuel in the tank could be bad. More history wold be helpful but it doesnt sound like you have it. Good luck.
