excessive exhaust

Default excessive exhaust

hi, i have 95 xj6 and was wondering if exhaust smoke is usually excessive? it seems excessive to me anyway its not cold outside so its not the weather. and its not sticky like a head gasket or any thing just exhasut. what would cause this and is there anything i can do to fix it?

There is a difference between "smoke" and "steam".

I think you have a "steam" issue, and seem to have eliminated the coolant side of the car, soooooo, maybe the exhaust is just heavily dosed with condensation from too short a driving time between shut downs.

Go and drive it for 1 hour or so, and see what gives. The exhaust systems on these is huge and long and takes some serious time to heat up and boil away any contaminants.

I have read, and NOT here, that the Ethanol additive in fuel CAN sometimes cause this. We dont have that fuel where I am, so NO hands on, luckily.

Of course there are tests etc that can be done to establish coolant presence, or exhaust in coolant etc etc, but I reckon a simple looooooong drive may answer your question????

thanks ill give it a shot, its definitly exhaust i believe anyway, because it also smells of exhaust ill see what happens after a drive though, (its raining today so she will have to stay home) and this is the first jag i have ever owned. just want to treat her right ya know
