Default Smoke/No Smoke, Please Help

1993 XJ6, 128000mi, Bought this 93 xj6 that was driven
regularly, Then garaged for a year. I did some needed work,
Rotors, Brakes, Batt & Alt, Changed the oil(castrol 10w30
high mileage) and oil filter. I have started it regularly,
Starts EVERY time, usually with a good puff of greyish smoke,
Drove it around the block for the first time today, No Check
Engine Light,No Error Codes, Billowing white smoke upon
acceleration, Parked it for about a half hour, Gave it
another ride around the block, Not A Spot of Smoke,Check
Engine Light now on & Fuel Fail #44 with key on, Not
running, Smoking when parked, Oil gauge fluctuating & oil
smoking under the hood at the exhaust header. Logically, I'm
thinking, how could it blow smoke one ride, NOTHING the
next, I just went out & started it again, NO Smoke, Then
Very Light smoking & Oil Gauge fluctuating between 2 & 4 while idling, If
it had a blown gasket, Wouldn't the car have been billowing
smoke the second ride same as the first ??? I would love to
drive this car, It drives nice & sounds smooth, Possibly a
sensor ? or am I fighting a losing battle, A friend
suggested that because it was sitting for a while, It just
needs to be driven and blown out a bit ??? Oil is clear & don't seem to be losing any coolant.
Any Help would be greatly welcome.

Check to see if the cam cover gasket is not leaking, as with heat it will expand and shrink when cold and there could be a weepage of a small ammount of oil on the exhaust manifolds. If thats the case its an easy fix.Keep an eye on your fluid levels.

White "smoke" is a sign of water in the exhaust system. It may have been on the first drive you simply had a bunch of water in the exhaust from the previous time running the car when it was humid out. Granted, that could also indicate a head gasket issue and you were blowing coolant into the exhaust. SO, check your coolant level.

As for the greyish smoke, that normally means a small amount of oil in the exhaust. It is possible because the car sat so long, that the valve seals are a little dry. This would cause them to blow by a little bit of oil, leading to what you are seeing. But then, with the code you are getting the smoke may simply be the car running rich. i'm not familiar wtih the codes for your year car. Start wtih that and see what path that may take you down.
