'92 XJ40 spare tyre
Dear fellow Jaguar enthousiasts,
I never really paid attention to the spare tyre in the boot of my Jag, but I knew the tyre on it was horribly worn. I'm having a 3500 km roadtrip coming up so I was thinking maybe it's time to look for some fresh rubber for it. Just as I was ready to order a new tyre with the matching size to the tyres I'm running now, I noticed just in time the tyre on it is in metric size (220/65/390). The wheel shows the part number CAC9960. As far as I know these are the metric wheels of the very first XJ40's. The original spare wheel probably got lost over time and one of the previous owners must have replaced it with a single (cheap) metric wheel.
I'm now trying to find out what spare wheel came originally with the car. Google only shows these space savers, but when digging deeper, the space saver seems to have been an option back in the day. Which is weird, as in recent times a full size spare would be considered an option. Did these cars come with full size spares as standard? The carpet cover for it which fits a full size wheel and tyre would suggest they did.
The existing tyre is also completely asymmetrically worn. I've never seen anything like it! It appears that it's not a good idea to interchange these metric wheels on later cars.

Mine only have the full sized spares, and the factory spare cover would tend to help prove your idea, I imagine you could get a temporary size spare, but im not sure why you would bother if you need to get another wheel as well anyway.. My 2 cents..
