AC Compressor does not come on

Default AC Compressor does not come on

I replaced my compressor with a new compressor. I am not getting power to the compressor (was befor r&r). Now what is my next step?? Please help Thanks.

First off, I am no A/C guy, and have never messed with mine on the Jag, based on previous experience I would check the low side pressure switch by jumping the socket and seeing if that kicks on the clutch. This is assuming that the system was properly vacuumed down and re-charged.

The low side pressure switch is typically located on the accumulator (receiver/drier). If jumping the switch does not engage the compressor clutch, I would think about replacing that.

I guess first off, now that I think about it is check all electrical connections and fuses or relays.

Most auto air con systems have a pressure switch in the circuit, so that if refrigerant pressure is too low, (from leaks), the compressor is switched off to protect it from damage. (compressor lubricant is part of the refrigerant mix).

However on my wife's New Beetle, we found the problem was the fuse block holding the fuse (30 amp) for the air con, it had burnt gradually away over the years due to the amps going through the fuse. I suppose corrosion caused a bad connection, hence heating up, hence burnout. Took 10 years, though !

I'm pretty sure you can do a fault display like an XK
Hold down the AUTO and RECIRCULATE buttons at same time and turn on ignition, then push the auto button again and the fault codes will cycle on the display. If you have a "0" code that means no codes.

I don't think blindly jumping the clutch relay is a good idea.
If you're out of refrigerant you will wreck your compressor - that's what the switch is for.
