Smile Battery drain

Hello my friends!, I own a 1994 XJ40, I've got a battery drain which is connected with the Fuse # B5 on the RH kick panel and is tagged "PI Memory". I've read that it is the memory for the Injectors. I've only used a ck. light to detect that removing this allows the # 194 bulb to dim down to almost nothing. I've driven it around the block with a noticeable hesitation. I've not determined how many amps it takes away. Today's Sunday and the Bible leaves me to believe that " my Ox isn't the ditch ". So I'll watch this Forum for some HELP! What in this B5 circuit could be bad enough to cause this drain. My wife claims I talk too much...???

I've moved this tech question from New Member Area - Intro a MUST section to XJ40 section where it should get a better response from members with the same model.

I just came in from another test. This time it was done at the fuse B5 again. With fuse pulled my Digital Meter read 9.64 Volts after allowing the interior lights to time out. The actual reading on battery was 12.42 V.

How are you actually going about to find your parasite? You need a volt meter that can measure amps. Anything pulled will show voltage drops. We need to see an amp draw. Do you know how to do an amp draw test? I can explain if need be.

Default Battery drain.

Ok, I've pulled every fuse with a Ck. light connected to the disconnected neg- battery cable and post.
After all fuses had been removed one at a time, the only fuse removed and still the light stayed on was the B5.
I've had so many trying to help asking just what amp drain showed on my VOM it's crazy.
One fussed that my return was that it was 73 mili amp draw saying I'm confusing him and everyone else with the #'s ???

The facts are that whatever numerical drain shows it drains my battery down with or without the fuse pulled.
I asked mainly to find out what was on the circuit that could be pinpointed to check.
Sometimes there are more than 1 thing on that circuit.
I did get the answer that it was the Petroleum Injector memory and that is where the info stopped.

Everything else was wanting to know a #.
Great for someone that's taking notes but how does it travel, through what direction and such.
I have 3 meters, they each have certain things that each are best suited for, but the only one that would read mili amps died Tuesday. or that it goes above 500 Mili ??!!
Anyway I'm going to Lowes to use my Christmas gift card to get a better meter for amps.
I have used the method of a 194 bulb in a 70's side marker light with a 15 foot section of #16 gauge wire for 35 or so years and not needed anything else to read a problem like this.

Too much coffee this morning. :-}

I've put some line breaks in your post - definitely too much coffee.
We do need the current draw - you will need a meter with a 10 or 20 Amp range - note you usually have to put the leads into a different socket on the meter to get the Amps range.
If you haven't already download the electrical diagram from the How-Tos

I've bought a new meter that works now. The reading is 2.32 amps on the DC10 amp range.

Now that you have a correct meter, follow these instructions.
Disconnect the negative lead on the battery. Clamp the red lead from the meter to the negative battery lead. Clamp the negative meter lead to the negative terminal on the battery. Be sure your meter is in amp mode and the doors are shut and no interior lights are on. What does your meter say now? If it's 2. something and above you need to now disconnect the meter, go open the doors, leave them open until the lights go out. Reconnect the meter as posted above, hopefully your leads are long enough to put the meter on the windshield while you pull every fuse one by one until that amp draw shows .5 or under. Is that how you got your 2.32 reading?

I've done this and it's still the B5 PI Memory fuse. It then goes to the High Power Board then out to the Air Injection relay. Then to the EMS main relay. Then to the LH fuse panel connector C1.

Ok, you've found out where the parasite is. Now you are going to have to find the reason. No other way then to go over the diagrams that "steveinfrance" posted a couple replies up.

Pull B5 and start the car up. Does it run? Sound different etc?

B5 huh? 94 xj6? RH side?
Light blue fuse? 15amp?

On your LH side go pull the panel and see if B5 is light blue and 15a.

According to all my documentation, and my 3 XJ6'S that B5 is your rear window motor, and in your case your RH rear window motor.

Thanks my friend. I've had a good bit of help with this on-line. My B5 on my 1994 XJ6 is on the RH kick panel. It's is taged "PI Memory". I was told that it was Petrol injection memory. I've traced it thru my Hanes book. A 1991 schematic shows it to be the rr window. But anything is possible. I'll ck. it too.

Good to see you're getting some great advice from mrtalkradio.

Hope you're nearing the resolution to this issue.

Is it possible for you to post a pic of your RH fuse panel door please?

1951sms,

Make sure your pic doesn't exceed the limits, that's usually the problem when uploading. The file size limits are visible in the upload window that opens when you try to upload a pic. Keep it a low pixel picture, convert it in MS Paint if needed, then try it. I think you need to keep the pic 620x280. If you have your camera set on high resolution (high pixel count), it will need to be reduced.
