Default Brake Conversion

Has anybody here done the brake conversion using the XJ6 Series 3 brake booster in place of the hydroboost? I've seen the write up on the Jag Lovers E-Book but it is listed for RHD models. Is there enough room for the booster on LHD models with the stock coolant tank?

Quite a few owners have converted LHD cars to vacuum assist, and I think one of our members did so recently using the Series III booster. There are probably other threads here, but one I remember is here:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ooster-170061/

There's also ton of info in the Jag-Lovers archive. I believe Jaguar Pete is one of the knowledgeable members there who has done the conversion at least once.

Cheers,

Don

Default Brake booster

95Leaper, I did this conversion a few months back. 88 Sovereign LHD. I used a later X100 brake servo. My adventures are on this forum under Time for Vacuum I believe. No matter which brake servo you use there is some adaptation that has to take place. I probably had more than most but I am happy with the result. Some have stated that the series 3 booster bolts up and others say no. I suspect there are some production changes depending on the year. You will have to pickup vacuum. A popular spot is on the intake manifold between cyl 5 & 6. There is a recess in the manifold that must be drilled and tapped. Sounds scarey but removing the U-tube portion of the intake manifold and using grease and a q-tip allows you to pick up all filings. It bolts back up with black silicone gasket material-that is what the factory used as well. Let me know if I can help with more info. I found a big improvement in the system after conversion. My hydraulic booster had good pressures before the pump failed and the vacuum system is still a big improvement. All the best.

I actually completed the conversion using a Series III booster and fabricating an adapter plate. The biggest issue was getting the coolant tank to fit. I had to move it forward about an inch and a half and removed and reused the existing rear mounting bracket.I reused the other bracket as well, just adding a forward extension to the support. It was a simple conversion and works great. I think aside from fabricating the adapter plate that removing the old system took longer to remove than installing the new vacuum system.
