Default Bulb out indicator question

I have a 94 XJ6 with a bulb out light yet all the lights are working. As a Volvo owner which also has this system I know the can be a PITA sometimes to fix but not all lights on in the circuit (ie lisc plate illumination USUALLY)

Anyone have any tips on this beside a clean and replace all sockets and bulbs?

Thanks

Joe

Hey Joe,

I would first try disconnecting the battery, then reconnecting it again. Sometimes its just a sensor that makes those warning lights come on.

Best Regards,
Michael

I tried that by default doing something else. No such luck its that simple. I was thinking a fog light might do it as I have one out but I am uncertain as to whats on the circuit.

I will have to look on Alldata or Mitchel and check the circuit for that.

The bulb failure modules are known to go bad. I've had a bulb out light lit for the last 8 years and no bad bulbs.

I now no longer 'see' it.

For electrical diagrams try this Link.

I had a feeling about that. The next step would be to pull the cluster and remove the bulb itself.

I did some looking on my model there are 4 separate modules, one for each corner. SO I was already under the dash I pulled the bulb for now. I will work on it later.

I have found on my 1993 xj6 that the marker lights inthe bumper ends were working but the light out was on.The light out light would go out when driven in the rain. then traced it down to bad (loose or dirty ground for the side marker lights.Even after that the light would sometimes come back on,so when it did I would go out and hit the bumper ends with my fist and the light would go out.Im not sure yours is the same problem but it might be.

I had a similar situation on my 1990 XJ6 as Lumppy47. My Bulb Out indicator was lit and all the bulbs were working fine. I started going through the grounds and found one under the hood (bonnet?) that was corroded. Once I cleaned it and screwed it back down, the Bulb Out indicator went out. That was several months ago and about two weeks ago, the indicator light came back on. A quick check showed that the side marker light in the rear right bumper was out. I whacked the bumper end with my hand and the bulb lit up and the indicator went out. Gotta love it!

Would it still light even if the fog lamps were not on?

Yes, the bulb failure light will still light up even though you haven't those fog lights on. It is an H3 bulb in case you were wondering.

I pulled the bulb in the dash out so I didn't have to look at it but I will check that out when I get to drive the car again to work. Probably in a week or so if it doesn't snow again.

I know, I know. I originally looked at the schematic and didn't see the fog lights in the bulb integrity circuit. Now with the snow I haven't driven the car in about a month so it hasnt been to work to even look at. I am hoping for next week.

The car has only 2 other issue of concern one being the CEL for Fuel 37 and the other being the left fan motor not working.

I had made a half hearted attempt to track down the CEL and as started checking connections the blowers stopped working on all speeds except high and then again without explanation started working again.

Since the CEL doesn't have an effect on how the car runs I am waiting until spring to play with both as they may be related wiring wise. Im sure all will be fixed come spring along with a new blower motor.

I just looked at this again and the bulb is out but the housing has been damaged and the bulb just "rigged' to sorta stay in place and the min it rained it would get wet.

SO I need to find a new assy or do a better rig job.

I have the same problem just haven't taken the time to repair. I just read a post on another forum that in my case is the problem. The system only reads the lights on each side are pulling the same power. In my case one of the bulbs is incorrect for the light socket. I just need to pull and replace the incorrect bulb and the problem should be solved.

Are you talking about the fog light?

What do you need for it? The ceramic holder that holds the bulb? btw, You need H2 bulbs for those fog lights. Or do you need the chrome housing?

It looks to be the back of the assembly that holds the bulb and aims it. I may get creative and try to "fix" it. I looked on the net and a new one is in the $250 range and used seems to be unavailable, at least for a 94.
