Centre Console/Armrest and Trasmission issue XJ40
Hi,
I've just purchased an XJ40 in reasonable condition and am asking for 2 pieces of advice from the forum:
1. as with most XJ40's the centre armrest is worn beyond repair. Does anyone know where I can get one from? Even a kit/cover which I could give to an upholsterer
2. when I went to move it yesterday morning it wouldn't select a gear. I tried both drive and reverse but it wouldn't select at all - it was as if the transmission was knackered and the clutch was badly slipping. After it warmed up for a couple of minutes I tried again and it selected fine. Upon driving it seemed a bit quick to change gear and kickdown didn't work, but after driving for about 15 minutes driving it was perfect again. Is this the box on it's way out or could this be fixed with an oil and filter change or a transmission service?
Any advice gratefully received..

checked the level at the weekend and the dipstick suggested instead of 3 litres of transmission fluid there is about 9 litres ie the fluid came up past the white plastic end by about 20ml! Next step is to drain the transmission, replace the filter and fill with fresh fluid?
Would anyone have anything to add?
