I have been trying to find a thread (any thread) which describes any retrofit for inducing colder air from my XJ40 MY1991, Sov. I am of the opinion that in Aus, we do not need the hot coolant swirling around the a/c unit in the cabin simply to satisfy the term "climate control".
If you are in a hot climate, may I suggest at least one step you can take to have a more efficient A/C and that is , to insulate (very thick) the upper refrigerant hose (cold) which is the upper one going into the expansion valve and hence, into the cabin. Obviously prohibits engine heat permeating this part of the A/C.
What I would like to do is to install a one way valve into the hot coolant pipe that on RHD cars is just below the battery or inlet manifod, and goes obvoiusly into the A/C unit in the cabin.
Any direction as to the tread would be appreciated.
Regards,
Michael Prichard.

Michael,
Though I have not personally done this, plenty of people have replaced the heater control valve located next to the firewall with a simple ball valve control and adjust the open/close position based on the season.

A lot of the contributors live in very hot and humid environments and a few of them have your MY Jag.
Good luck

Thank you for taking the trouble to respond to my request. The website "logon" takes me to Jaglovers.
I find that site irritating because you have just a handful of "experts" so called, always giving advice. This is particularly so with a Brian from the U K. He obviously sits at his computer day in day out captured by his ego. I have caught him out with his bad advice a number of times. Hence a reluctance to "go there. ...Sorry!
However, your suggestion of the ball valve is great start so, will look at that with some optimism. If it is of any help to other members, a large number of XJ40s up to late 92 did not have the heater control valve at all, so I will look at the coolant pipe that runs from engine through to the cabin A/C paraphernalia.
Thanks again for your reply

Michael,
Not sure about any "experts", but I did remember reading the post a while back when I was having a problem with my 89 w/heater control valve and was deciding whether or not to replace it. That said, I replaced the valve, but I still may put in the ball valve this spring before the real "hot" stuff shows up here in Mobile.
Take care.
