Did I Get Burned Or Am I Stupid? Keyless Remote
I just bought a keyless remote off ebay from a company named the same (Keyless Remote) I ordered the Jag XJ12 1994 compatible remote. I recieved it yesterday with the following programming instructions:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWNX%3AIT
Instructions That Came With KEYLESS Remote:
1) Hold headlight flasher back
2) Turn Ignition Key To position 1
3) Flash headlights 4 times
Alarm will enter program mode. This will be confirmed by "beeps" from the
alarm and flashing LED on gearshift.
Program each transmitter (up to 5) by pressing the lock or unlock button
on each transmitter once. The alarm will "honk" when you press the transmitter button.
The alarm will honk 5 times to complete the programming. Therefore if you are only programming
one transmitter you should operate the transmitter 5 times. If you are programming 2 transmitters
then you would operate 1 transmitter 2 times and one transmitter 3 times. For 5 transmitters you
would operate each transmitter once!
Well, I have tried this about a dozen times with NO result at all and what is this about an LED on the gearshift???? I don't see an LED there unless I am blind?
Plus it doesn't tell you whether to begin this procedure with the alarm swith in the on position or the off position. I would think that would matter somewhat?
Any Ideas, help or suggestions?
peace out,
daddylogan

Oooops, those instructions make great reading. Please post up a vid of you doing this. LOL
Seriously, you can find the instructions for programing the remotes in this forum either type in Remote programing in the search box, or try this:
First make sure that the remote batteries are good before doing anything, then:
1990-92 XJ6 cars
1. Record radio security code (if so equipped).
2. Disconnect negative battery terminal/cable.
3. Reconnect negative battery terminal/cable; "beeping" should be heard.
4. Press each transmitter so a total of 5 confirmations are heard.
5. Test operation. Enter radio code (if needed). Set clock.
1993-94 XJ6 cars:
1. Turn ignition key ON.
2. Turn security switch OFF (located in center console).
3. Turn ignition key OFF.
4. Turn security switch ON.
5. Cycle security system switch ON/OFF rapidly 4 times (within 5 seconds).
6. Press each transmitter so a total of 5 confirmations are heard.
Also I think it was Thermo, who added for someone, walk 5 times backwards around the car chanting "Hail ye almighty god Lucas".
Have fun,

However there are possible glitches. When it says turn ingnition key to ON does that mean position 1 or position 2?
Also after cycling through the security switch rapidly 4 times am I suppose to land on the ON position or the OFF position?
I do see the lights flashing on the radio and center dash...but there is no light on the gearshift!!LOL
Maybe some voodoo will help?

Position 2 (dash lit up) and ON worked for me eventually. But I also had to do a hard reboot first. Achieved by disconnecting the battery positive terminal and touching the lead to the negative terminal.
That LED seems to wander around on its own. I've got one right next to the ignition switch, and the toggle switch is under the steering column and not in the center glove box.
Hey this is a British thing, aimed to confuse would be invaders.

What happened when you disconnected/reconnected the car battery, did it start to beep at regular intervals? If not I would supect a system problem, can't help you with that, other than to think that there might be a problem with the alarm module.
One thing that I once had was I couldn't get the alarm to reset at all. I also tried everything I could think of, eventually I did this.
Battery connected.
Ignition off.
Disconnect the wiring plug from the alarm module (located in the center overhead light console, the thing with the radar type dome).
Ignition on.
Reconnect wiring plug.
Redo alarm sequence.
After many many attempts this eventually worked, why I don't know.
It's a sh*t of a problem, but looking at the number of posts on various forums, a very common one, and one I suspect you might have to live with unless one of our Tech guru's can come up with something magical.
Here's hoping.

Ok...mystery solved. You were correct...the hard reboot did the trick and then I followed the set of instructions above which were:
1-Turn the ignition key to the "on" position without starting the engine
2-Turn security switch to "off" position which is located inside the center console box 3-Turn ignition key "off"
4-Turn security switch back to "on"
5-Cycle security switch "on" and "off" rapidly 4 times within 5 seconds
6-Press each transmitter totally 5 times until you hear confirmation tones
Now I just need to figure out which button does what...LOL I set the alarm off for like 20 seconds before I could get it too shut off and man it is loud! :-)

I have a 91 XJ6 and was wondering if all the cars came with this option? I am very interested in getting a remote and hopefully it working as my locking system will not always operate properly. Thanks for any help,
