Default DIY Windshield Replacement?

Gentlemen (and Ladies), I have to replace the windshield in my '92 Vanden Plas (the rock won). I'm wondering if this is something I should attempt or if I should just bite the bullet and pay a Pro to replace it? Because it is not the new style "glue in" the local auto glass company requires that I bring the car in and leave it for a couple of days and the cost is ... um ... high. I have changed out an MGBGT windscreen and managed to break only one while doing it, is the Jag as difficult? Thanks

I assume that is the old style with a rubber moulding.
If so there is a bit of a knack to it but it's not rocket science, can't imagine why it would need a couple of days, unless there is something special about it.

I may be wrong, but I'm sure that they are bonded in, and thus beyond the scope of most DIYers.

Do you not have glass cover on your insurance?

Thanks for the replies, in answer, it is the old style with the rubber gaskets, seals, and chrome trim. After pricing it out I have decided to give it a try on my own (it can't be any more difficult than the MG). In a nut shell, I figured I could break two glasses and one rubber seal and still come out ahead! Of course, if I do that and still have to take it to the shop, my wife will be vexed with me! I'll proceed and document the installation and results in case anyone else wants to attempt it.

A length of strong string will be your friend!

I wouldn't have thought there would be too much danger of breaking the glass.

Hmm, you must have a different set up in the US, because my two XJ40s both have bonded screens.

The rubber and chrome is fitted to the screen before the whole lot is bonded to the car.

And removal in one piece requires a tool that slides in and cuts the rubber bond between glass and car.

Take care, and post project pics.
