Do you hate inspections?

Do you hate inspections?
I hate annual inspections (PA). First thing: I always know more about my car that the people doing them. Secondly, the only problems found are usually what can be fixed quickly at the inspection station. Total conflict of interest. In may case I know my car needs front bushings and a transmission mount (parts on order) but my inspection was due so I had to take it in. Lets see: now I need brakes (there is still 1/8 inch before the sensors hit) and new tires (again 1/8 inch before the tread wear indicators). Possibly those things in the next 5-10,000 miles. I guess a Jag screams this guy has cash in his wallet that we need to take but I just hate the ordeal. When Ipointed these things out to the shop they backed off pretty quickyl and gave me a sticker (actually i paid for the sticker). Any horror stories out there? I guess at least in my case (this time)knowledge saved me cash.

You have it easy.....I live inJapan....whew! The taxes I pay and parking etc...misc fees...discourages one from owning a car...and inspection every two year (last one cost me $3,000)....I personally think much of it is a farce...to make you buy newer vehicles....read this....

RE: Do you hate inspections?
Hey Stuck,
I used to do Pa inspections when I lived near Philly. Now I live in Ohio, and constantly see people driving around with one working brake light. It always makes me wonder....what will happen first, will the owner fix the bad lamp, or will the other one fail?
Alot of people don't realize how dangerous their cars are when neglected, they either compensate for it or procrastinate the expense. I agree with you completely, most stations take advantage of the oportunity to upsell the owner. The only thing worse is no inspection at all.

hmm, these are pretty wild inspection stories especially that Japan one! lol. Heres one for ya though. I never have any problems with inspections in NY since our familys mechanic is a personal friend since like 20 yrs ago. My buddy goes there too but he was stuck on time for an inspection a few weeks back on his Jeep so he went to this place like 10 mins from us. His horn didnt work (which was the only reason it didnt pass) and then this stupid place rattled off all these tiny things they rack up on their paper...the kinda stuff they rip off non-car ppl or little old ladies.
So they charged him the 21 bucks for inspection JUST FOR "inspecting" it, didnt give him the sticker and told him to come back when the horn was fixed and then he'd get a sticker. OR if he wanted they couldve started a diagnostic for 120 bucks....what kinda BS is that!?! My buddy was fuming and when we went back to get the truck we literally walked in got the keys and left. And the nerve of the tool behind the desk was saying "oh yea youve done some nice work with your Jeep, do you do alot of that stuff yourself?"
Needless to say his gf's dad fixed the horn, he went to my mechanic, who doesnt even bother looking over the entire car for us cuz theyre all in perfect shape and just gave him the sticker!!
