Hi all, Q? 92 XJ40: is there a central locking switch in the console (not the security switch) as well as a fob & key access or just fob and key, also can the front door key locks be swapped left to right....also anyone know of after market fobs for central locking xj40?

Hi Tom,

I can't remember whether the XJ40 has a central locking switch in the console but I would think it would be obvious.

Regarding swapping the front door locks, I think that should be possible, but if the lock barrels are handed, you may have to swap the tumblers from the passenger side lock into the driver side barrel and vice versa. It's been years since I messed with the XJ40 locks. Hopefully other members will have done it more recently and will chime in.

There is a central lock switch above the radio with the dome light switches. It's been a couple of years since I was in fiddling with my locks but "as I recall" they can be swapped side to side but I think it is Only the cylinders themselves.

 

Yep, I believe the cylinders can be swapped without messing with the tumblers.

I was hoping for a lower console door switch so i could patch an after market locking system into as i sell these for earlier models setup specifically for jaguars, i haven't seen the car yet as the owner is conveying the info to me, his problem is the drivers key lock intermittently works hence the idea of swapping barrels with the passenger side....the door lock switch @ top of console is a safety switch so can't patch into that one........he doesn't have a fob at all...missing in action...someone might see these posts and know of an easy get replacement fob...........
