Electric Fan Diagnosis

Electric Fan Diagnosis
Hello,
The electric fans are not coming on as they should with the AC on or high temps on my '93 xj6. So far, I have put 12v to the fan motors and they turn on. I looked at the temp switch on the radiator and it was all corroded, so I replaced that. Fans still don't turn on as they should. Next I looked at the module/relay thing and replaced that. I also cleaned the common ground point near the fender.
What else is part of this circuit besides the wires that I can test? I had just replacing parts but the way that temp switch looked, I thought that it was going to be the problem. I didn't know how to test the module, so I just bit the bullet on that one.
Any guidance from here would be appreciated!

Yes indeed. That was one reason (evacuation) why I didn't replace mine during my "always-on" sojourn (which thankfully self-corrected after cleaning/replugging the pressure switch..)
I vacuumed down/re-gassed just a month prior and didn't fancy doing it again right away ..
On the bright side, you've found the problem ..maybe a connection cleaning will work for you too?
Cheers

I had some fan problems earlier in the summer that was fixed by bypassng a connector.
this might help.

The AC doesn't work so it's possible that it's low on refridgerant which would prevent the compressor from running to protect it. I'm just helping a friend out here to get her car drivable again. I'm thinking I'll hook my gauages up to the AC lines and check that out but might just disconnect the compressor clutch wire to keep the fans working.

I don't think the fans run too much (hardly ever) if the A/C isn't operational ...so maybe everything is OK but you just don't have a working A/C system??
You can stop the compressor kicking in by pulling the relay on the firewall BTW (not that it's going to kick in if it's low on gas!)
good luck

Even without A/C the fan should come on. With the A/C on the fan will come on sooner to pull air over the condenser to help with the operation of the A/C not so much with cooling the engine.
There is a thermal switch that will turn on the fans via the fan controller and the pressure swithces will do the same thing seperatly
