Where is the electric fuel door release button on my 88 XJ40?

 

PUSH open, PUSH closed. (switch under 'pin' on bottom of lid)

 

I tried pushing the lid down and releasing it, but it didn't open. I know there was a latch (white mechanical tab) in the trunk that I used to open it before, but I managed to break it off when I was trying to get it open before I got it taken apart to free up the latch pin. There is an electro magnetic release (which I found when I was cleaning up the locking pin), but I can't find a way to activate it. I tried hitting the door lock button twice, that didn't work either. Any other suggestions? I appreciate your input.

 

Obviously the electrical switch/circuit has failed.

The plunger pushes on a momentary contact switch to release the latch.

The plastic lever is the mechanical release so I don't have any answer except dig at it with tools?
