Help on 91 clock light

Help on 91 clock light
On my "new" 91 XJ6 the clock LCD light stay on a short while then turns off. Once off, I cannot get it to come back on when I depress the light button on the left side of the LCD. Diagnoses and resolution if possible? iS THERE A TIMER IN THE CLOCK OR IS IT A SEPERATE RELAY ELSEWHERE?
