I replaced the oring in the distributor and found oil is also leaking from the little port right next to and above where the distributor goes in. It is a Diamond shaped cover that is screwed in with 2 bolts on either side. I tried to take it off but the bolts would not budge. For the sake of not causing problems I decided I had better ask here to find out exactly what it is I am trying to unscrew before I go unscrewing it.

 

Top Timming chain tensionner, piston assembly, and the stab in the back is that at least on my 92 I couldn't get it to clear the block without first removing the distributor.

Yes the bolts are seriously tight I had to give them a bit of gentle persuasion with a quick tap from a large hammer against the spanner. The previous owner had so overtightened them that he had cracked the plate behind a bolt head!

I got away with it, by sheer fluke I think.

Do a search for top timing chain tensioner replacement on the AJ6 engine for a better idea.

Just beware.

 

Well that sucks...already removed the distributor once and that was scary enough...now I gotta do it again

I will search that tonight...you say 'beware' know any off hand tips/tricks from experience? lol I might try and clean it up really good and smother it in airplane gasket maker to slow the leak if it is a huge job lol
