Default Help with a mass air flow sensor

Hi all.

1992 JAGUAR XJ6 4.0 VIN: SAJHY174XNC649709

I purchased this car as a non running project / parts car to part out for my other one.
after working on it for about a hour, the car is a running car. it had a bad safety neutral switch. (and some other problems, now fixed)
after diagnosing some other problems and fixing them, its not running too good. its sputtering, dies out on acceleration.
my mass air flow sensor has a ripped screen and im getting a 12 code thats telling me the mass air flow sensor is bad.
i purchased a new o2 sensor, (connectors were cut and taped together) and im looking for a correct mass air flow sensor but im having a problem finding a correct part.
i do not know if the one that was in the car is the correct part.
(i have ben replacing a few other things on the car and some look like they were scrap yard replacements).
can anyone tell me the correct part number for a replacement mass air flow sensor. (the plug has 5 terminals, the sensor that came out has 6 pins.)
there is an engine id on the inner fender NJR4-DV5FPK5
Thanks for any help with the correct part number.

Bobby, your best parts reference is Jag Classic parts UK:

Just select your car's VIN range and you're all set -

https://www.jaguarclassicparts.com/uk/jaguar-xj6-parts

btw, AFAIK the airflow meters on these cars don't have 6 pins so you're on the right track!

The right airflow meter is either a Lucas/Hitachi 3AM or 5AM, (not sure which for your VIN, guessing 3AM) ...these are fitted to other cars like early Range Rovers etc and other cars too so not hard to find used.

Used ones are out there - apparently this one is compatible with your car, it's a 5AM

Thanks. I did see that one on ebay and made an offer. i was looking for a new one or rebuilt unit. I also found one of them on parts geek. $308 plus $80.00 core charge
part # w0133-1599910 its a 6 pin but is supposed to work for the 5 pin application also.
I ordered that one also.
Thanks again.

Alrighty then, I wish you luck with the 6 pin unit.

Keep in mind that FF12 can be triggered by the MAF connector, thie MAF uses very small voltages and any corrosion/oxidation on the pins/socket can flag the fault - the 5AM unit was introduced with gold plated pins to alleviate the problem although it can still crop up, that connector can be a pain.

Thanks. I purchased both. The used 5 pin , and the new 6 pin (that is supposed to be a "universal fit" for 5 or 6 pin ? ). when i get them, ill post the results.
and i will clean the connectors , thanks for the tip.
