Default Hidden antenna advice and opinions

Hey everyone, My powered antenna crapped out on me and I have looked and taken everything apart and can't figure why the up down doesn't work. I bought a replacement one from the auto parts store and that one too didn't go up and down so I am assuming that the wire has a break in it somewhere that controls up and down.

In any event instead of worrying about the power antenna I really would rather put in a hidden antenna and the antenna I have now just keep in the down position.

Has anyone bought one and if so what is your assessment of it?

Also there is a power component to the hidden antenna that is nice and I was wondering if someone had a quick color to tap into without tracing each wire individually. I can do it with an ohm meter but it is usually faster to ask ;-)

Thanks in advance.

rutty.

just reading this thread, i`ve had a thought.
as you cant get an aeriel to go up or down, have you actually checked the supply, to the aeriel, from the radio?
one of the wires from the radio goes live when you switch the radio `on` and so puts the aeriel/antenna up. likewise, when you switch the radio `off`, the aeriel/antenna goes down, i assume, on reversed polarity!

just found this out my documents which may help you to resolve it;

01)= Red/white - LH Front Door Speaker
02) = Red/brown - LH Rear Door Speaker
03) = Red/green - Common, LH Front & Rear Door Speakers
04) = Light green/black - Microprocessor (CPU) - Aerial motor
05) = Red/light green - LH Bass Speaker
06) = Red/purple - LH Bass Speaker
07) = Red/brown - RH Front Door Speaker
08) = Pink/yellow - Rh Rear Door Speaker
09) = Pink/light green - Common, RH Front & Rear Door Speakers
10) = Light green/orange - Switched from Radio Relay via Choke
11) = Brown/white - from fuse C2, LH fuse box
12) = Red/green - from instrument pack lighting
13) = Pink/red - RH Bass Speaker
14) = Pink/orange - RH Bass Speaker

So, the Light Green/Orange is the radio power supply --
Should be connected to the Accessory/Ignition wire on your
radio.

The light Green/Black wire connects to the Ariel wire on
your radio

The Brown/White is the Radio memory power supply, not the
primary power supply.

Ok so as with all older cars this must have been replaced at some point because I went and looked up what the OEM looked like and they are nothing alike. SOOOOOOOOOO. I guess I will OHM the wires closer to the antenna and see what I can find as hot. Your colors are different than mine for some reason.

If I get a chance I will take pictures of what I have. I think my sig now says what I have.
