hi, looking at an '89 xj6,,brake pedal requires significant pressure to slow/stop the car.
Also, the dash flashes "anti-lock brakes failure"..dealer just got it, doesn't know history
or....much else....other wise it seems to run good ,handle good,,except...around 50-60mph
a shake and thumping occur, maybe broken tire belt or needs aligned, or tires balanced??
any help appreciated, thanks.........

Accumulator test: you should be able to pump the pedal 15 to 20 times before the low pressure light comes on the dash. You can also remove the ball and drop a pocket screw driver into the hole. It should not fall in more than 1/2 an inch or so.
Sorry, Biggie. It a gas charged sphere under about 600 to 900 lbs. of pressure that assists in the braking system. All the XJ40 had them and the XJS used them for 89.5 to about 92 or so...maybe as late as 95. I'm feeling lazy and don't want to look it up. It's Friday.
