Default Looking for a donor car

Hello there,

I have a 1992 Vanden Plas 4.0 engine automatic. I am looking for a donor car i can buy so i can use those parts on my existing car.

What model and year should i be looking at?

are 1993 to 1997 xj6 has the same parts as what i have? or should i look for 1992 and lower?

I am leaning towards buying a complete car and just salvaging the parts to be use to my existing 1992 vanden plas.

Your suggestions is highly appreciated.

thanks in advance for all your help.

God bless.

I would shop the VIN range, not the model year to optimized the likelihood of having transferable parts

VIN 594576 (start of MY '90) through VIN 687219 (approx, not sure of ending number)

594576 - 629285 '90
629286 - 649174 '91
649175 - 667828 '92
667829 - 687218 '93
687219 - not sure of ending number '94

The closer you get to your VIN, the more parts you'll be able to source.

Thanks Rob

for the immediate reply, i truly appreciate your response.

however forgive my ignorance.

My 1992 has a VIN # that ends in 666459 so what you're saying is that my choice is limited to the same year model 1992

649175 - 667828 '92

the vin number above does not take into consideration the model of the car right? it doesnt matter if its vanden plas, majestic or just XJ6 as long as the VIN matches as per above.

thanks again for enlightening me on the subject.

regards and God bless.

The later models have different electrical components, trim fittings and other bits.

But the main items remain the same.

I have a 92, and a my 93 although slightly different is the spares car.

Now my 92 is also destined to be a spares car. Rust has eaten it.

If part of your consideration, as Lawrence implied, is interior trim pieces, then yes, you will want same model, within a VIN range.

You could do this for research; take a OEM part number for your vehicle and go here:

Jaguar XJ6 (2.9, 3.2, 3.6, 4.0) parts | Jaguar Classic Parts UK

Search for the part number in the search box on the left side and it will return the applicable models/VIN's for the part. It's not perfect, but should help you decide on the best purchase. Keep in mind, when you drill into the specifics there are part number that have succsesion part numbers.

If you haven't been on the above site before, just mess around with the different hyperlinks and you'll figure it out in no time.
