Looking for pre purchase help 1990 XJ6
Hello
Hoping to become a Jag owner rather than just an admirer.
I am looking at a 1990 XJ6 it needs some TLC which I am looking forward to. I am going to look at the car tomorrow, my biggest concern is the seller stated that the car has now gone into a "fail safe" or "limp mode". He suggests that it may be due to an exhaust leak. I know with some vehicles this can happen, O2s reading incorrectly ect. Is there anything I should particularly look at to determine the cause? Will resetting the computer take it out of the fail safe mode.
I have access to diagnostic scanners but I doubt any will have programming for Jaguars. Is there a "key switch" method?
Thanks in advance for any advice
Matt

My 93 XJ6 was in "limp mode" because of the low idle problem I am having. I changed the egr valve and O2 sensor after it went into limp mode and now it is not in limp mode. I believe with these motors any problems that could hurt your motor will put it into limp mode. For me anyway it was my car telling me to stop and fix it. Its a great car though. I am waiting on pads and rotors now and when I get them I will burn through a tank of gas and see how my idle is. If it is fine it was the O2 sensor causing all of my problem. Which put my car into limp mode.
