Default New subframe bushings already torn

Hey, I was curious if anyone had this problem. I replaced the front subframe "v" mounts and they already split apart with just the subframe hanging. I noticed one corner was tearing as soon as I bolted it back to chassis. Now after a few weeks they are both separated. The engine is not even installed! These are OEM Jaguar mounts. If you look closely, the rubber is torn only on the very outside edges and rusty underneath. As if 99% of the rubber surface area isn't vulcanized to the metal plate.

Normally use of true OEM mounts is strongly suggested specifically to avoid this problem....although I suppose the proverbial 'bad batch' can always slip through.

These mounts came in Jaguar packaging with Jaguar part numbers?

Cheers

Hi Ralls,

There is definitely something wrong with those Vee-mounts!

It's possible that if you purchased them from a Jaguar dealer that they were manufactured 25 years ago and for all those years have been sitting in a warehouse in the U.K. or in the North American warehouse in New Jersey, the rubber deteriorating and delaminating and the metal rusting.

This might be a case when a good independent Jaguar specialist like one of our forum sponsors might be able to offer OEM or aftermarket mounts of more recent manufacture.

Cheers,

Don

+1

Could be just the photo but that cracking pattern on the end has the look of 'old' rubber (see circled area):

I bought the mounts from Welsh Enterprises. They were in a bag with Jaguar label. Yes they could of been sitting for 25 years. However, my 29 year old original mounts with 180K miles on them are in better shape!
The cracking on the rubber surface is interesting but I believe it's just the paint they sprayed over the whole mount.

Side note, I'm not a fan of these new mounts. They changed the design. My original ones had a metal interlock in case the rubber fails, metal will keep it together (which is exactly what happened to the original mounts). These new mounts "look" the same but the interlock is RUBBER. It bends and feels like rubber at least. So basically if they fail, the only thing keeping my subframe from coming down are the shocks.

I have my doubts that they are OEM. Some sellers are very good
at implying OEM without actually stating it categorically.

Any pictures of the actual label on the packaging?

I don't believe Jaguar spray paints the rubber either.

Send your photos to Candice at Welsh and hopefully she'll not only do the right thing for you, but will personally examine any remaining inventory they have of those mounts.

There's an eBay listing for an OEM Vee-mount. It might be worth comparing your mounts to the photos in this listing:

I don't have a choice but to replace them again. It's not a huge deal. I just don't want this happening again.

I don't have the bag anymore. I just remember they were sealed and the label seemed OEM.

The only difference I see with that ebay listing is my mounts say "SAMEER" on the rubber.

I have seen the name SAMEER on front wheel bearing oil seals I purchased from Coventry West. As far as I have been able to determine, Sameer Industries was founded in Delhi, India in 2004. Sameer probably did not manufacture the original parts on our XJ40s, but may be currently supplying Jaguar with parts that are no longer available from the original manufacturer(s).

Cheers,

Don
