My 1990 Daimler xj40 has decided to deposit all of its power steering on the floor. The source was the small hole on the adapter piece which says to me the seals on the pump to the adapter have failed.
I’ve tried doing some research, lots of mentions of a special tool etc to pull the thing apart. Is it worth the effort?
I don’t have the tooling to do so and if I cobbled something together I’m then left with the issue of pressing it back in. Which has to be done precisely I believe.
So, do I buy a good used pump and adapter, or tackle it myself buying a seal kit of some kind? If so, which seals do I need?
I can't speak for UK, but suggest you go for a reconditioned complete unit . . . best found here on an exchange basis.
Done so twice (late S3 and XJ40) after similar research convinced me that, without special tools, it held unacceptable risks.
Talking about steering: This is the fitting for the steering cooler line of my XJ12. Does anybody know what kind of thread it is and are these fittings available solely? Mine has been mistreated and the line won't thread up again.
