Replacement Shifter Knob

Yes , I did it
It made a big difference as well
The stock one w/ all black came off easily but what I installed was hardly push down .After a certain point , don't push the wood one (if you happen to buy like mine ) that hard , just align the "growler" to your face and move up the long nut (that you will see once you loose and remove the stock one) to secure the gear knob

Road trip...then maybe cool new stuff
Well on Monday I'm going to Memphis then OKC, then Tuesday driving back to carbondale...going to be around 1,500 miles in 2 days. This is the first time I'm taking my car out of state, and I've never driven any jag more then 350 miles in a day...so it should be exciting. I was looking at the gear knob, I need to get my door locks fixed, and then I'm also interested in looking for mud flaps if anybody knows where I can buy those.
Those three interests will take the back seat as I want to make sure the jag survives and thrives on this road trip. Should be a boatload of fun. When I'm in OKC I'm going to the FAA facility to learn about high altitude flying and go in their altitude/hypoxia chamber. ALso I'm going to be checking out a new 93 XJ40 in memphis...it's British Racing Green, and if it's as good as the seller I spoke to says, it could make a decent daily driver replacement so I can let my recently repainted and in great running order stay in the garage with my father back home...where snow, rain, and vandalism are not a threat.

I don't know about the later XJ8 or XK8 knobs as a replacement. The X300 knob has slightly different threads where it screws on to the stem. I have a wood knob, but no growler. It's a direct fit.

I just wrote to my parts guy a couple of hours ago about the very same thing and here you fine people already have all of the info. Well I´m a late comer to the Jaguar party.
I figured getting a wood shift knob or two or three would stop me from buying a vanden plas and ending up with more cars that I don´t need.

I'm probably just going to order the one from Motorcars after I fix my door locks. Trip to OKC was great tho, these cars are really good long touring cars I must say. I had two passengers, who I assumed would split the 23 hours of driving with me, but they were too afraid I would kill them if something went wrong I suppose that they refused to drive. I was able to drive for 12 hours Monday, go through a Hyperbolic Chamber on Tuesday after only 4 hours of sleep, and then drive 11 hours back to IL and I was not even tired that's how great this thing was to drive.
If your wondering how I cut an hour off the return trip...there is a 90 mile road in Missouri called Mountain View Highway, just going through peaks and valleys of these great mountains. I spent a large part of that 90 miles racing this Chevy Cobalt SS up the slopes and then setting up for the next drag while coasting down. The old girl still has enough juice to win against the young guns. And the Cobalt had fuzz buster so we didn't even have to worry about the police
