Default replacing wiring harness 1990 xj 6 soverign

acquired this car with engine failure. found 50,000 mile engine complete with harness and bolt on,s. engine is in removed battery tray, plastic container under tray, disconected old harness under dash, what else do i remove to fish old harness out and new in? also have a loose vaccum hose coming from center of console that looks like it could reach to plastic box under batt. is that a good bet? would not replace the harness but previous owner complaned about elec sys and harness on replacement eng looke far better condition than orig. both eng out of 90 xj6 soverign,

Hi Granpapafred,
It's possible the old harness had problems, it is 20+ years old after all. If the 2nd harness is better then yes, I would seriously consider changing it.

You may have better luck posting this under the XJ 6 section XJ6 & XJ12 series 1, 11 & 111 - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
You'll more likely to find someone who is better familiarized with the car.
Good luck!

i have no answers for your query.

Your 1990 XJ6 is commonly known as an XJ40 in Jaguar talk. Confused, so were we all at the start, but you will get used to it.

One of the Moderators lurking around, I think may assist in moving this to the XJ40 section, where you will get a myriad of answers. If they dont, simply repost the same subject in that area.

I do apologise for not having an answer, and for the inconvenience.

I'm doing the same job on a '90 and have gotten just as far so can't really help you other than your correct forum is the XJ40 section.

both eng out of 90 xj6 soverign,
This tells me you have an XJ40 not a Series 1,2, 3 model. Suggest you post in the XJ40 forum. Reason this title has 1968-1992 is the V12 saloons were made until then, (in penny packets), but the sixes stopped in 1986 when the XJ40 with a completely different engine took over.

Grandpa, I've merged your two threads and your in the XJ40 section now so we should be good.
Good luck with the wiring.
